Community Information Day - Adelaide Desalination Project

Come along and find out more about the Adelaide Desalination Plant at the Community Information Day on Sunday, 18 October 2009 from 11am-3pm.

The Community Information Day will be a family friendly event. Take a look at desalination information and speak to project staff about the construction works under way.

The day will include a free barbeque and fun activities for the kids – including appearances from SA Water’s water saving character Captain Plop.

Official opening of the Adelaide Desalination Project temporary visitor centre will take place at 1pm.

Just follow the signs from Meyer and Freebairn Roads to the Adelaide Desalination Project site on Chrysler Road, Lonsdale.

So anyone else working in government services has probably already seen this - we get sent these Government Information emails pretty regularly and increasingly often they're announcing public forums for this and that ... I read through the advertiser etc most days over coffee, have numerous RSS feeds keeping me informed of current stuff - yet outside of the emails I'm yet to find notice of these events - what's up with that - no wonder we all feel like the government is a sham and does nothing for us when our options for public feedback and involvement are so obscured from public view!

Anyway - anyone else interested in going?

right - so this is still on the stove simmering away but appears to be pretty good. Mezri's comment "I think I jizzed a little"

500g Turkey Mince
1/2 medium brown onion
cumin seed ground
chicken stock
worcestershire sauce
butter
oil (whatever)
peas, corn, carrot, beans (frozen packet works great)
1 2/3 cup basmati rice (partially (about 1/3) cooked in chicken stock, not just water)

- In a deep (fairly large) frypan add enough oil to nicely cover the base, add a dollop of butter (amount to own taste) and brown the onion.
- Add the mince, when about 1/2 to 2/3 cooked add a generous splashing of worcestershir sauce (again to own taste) At this point also add a few shakes of cumin (I guessed and sorta just covered all the mince lightlyish)
- Once mince is basically cooked add vegetables - and around 1/2 cup chicken stock
- When the veges are cooked through a bit, dump in the rice which should still have quite a lot of stock still in - mix the rice through, let this simmer stirring occasionally until rice is completely cooked.
- At this point the stock should have mostly cooked off - if not increase heat to cook it off.
- Add another dollop of butter & stir through to create a thick gloss sauce.
- Eat it.
